Figures from real records
Every figure combines several owners' cars and is published only when none of them can be identified.
How we work it outA ranking built from records is only worth reading if its limits are as clear as its winners.
A brand or model is published only once at least 3 different accounts own one, and each figure only once that many owners contributed to it. Number plates, dates and individual records are never published.
Costs are divided by the distance recorded, so a car with three years of history does not look dearer than one with three months. Cars with under 1,000 km recorded are left out of the cost figures.
Wherever the owner marks full tanks, consumption is measured between them. Averages outside 2 to 30 L/100 km are treated as entry errors and left out.
Diesel and petrol versions of the same model count together: CarTrackr does not record the engine, and the fuel type is optional. Electric cars are left out of consumption. Cost per km covers fuel and maintenance only, without road tax or insurance.
