How it works

L/100 km says how much fuel a car uses to cover a set distance: lower is better. km/L and miles per gallon say how far it goes on a set amount of fuel: higher is better.

A UK gallon (4.546 L) is larger than a US gallon (3.785 L), so the same car shows a higher mpg figure in UK gallons.

km/L = 100 ÷ L/100 km
